Dian Soto Vega
Dian is a craftswoman, textile artist, and product designer. She was born and raised in Tlalnepantla, a municipality belonging to Mexico City’s metropolitan area.
From the Nahuatl
tlali – earth
nepantla – in the middle of
Tlalnepantla – in the middle of the earth.
With her work, Dian investigates her positionality (as a woman, mestiza, feminist, migrant), her self in relation, to other beings, to life, to Earth. She dives deep into her memories and explores her relationship with those who came before her, her ancestors, them, who visit her in dreams.
Through the craft, Dian has found a praxis for remembering lost pieces of her that were (and still are) made invisible by the violence of coloniality. And thanks to the magic of natural dyes she has found an opportunity to re-connect with the elements and to Mother Earth.
