Fashion Talk #2: Sustainable Textiles
In 2020 our series of Fashion Talks will start. Throughout the year, we will invite experts from the fashion field to De Wasserij to exchange thoughts and knowledge with our residents and with the public. During the Getting Closer Fashion Festival we will kick off with no less than four talks!
On Saturday, host Nanette Hogervorst (Fashion platform Our World), welcomes two experts in the field of sustainable textiles: Laura Luchtman (Kukka) and Andriana Landegent (Ecological Republic and Seven Senses). With them, she discusses how you can recognize sustainable materials, what are the advantages and disadvantages of these fabrics, and which colors would be in style if we go 100% eco.
Laura Luchtman
In addition to developing designs and art direction for brands worldwide, Laura is engaged in experimental research with her design studio Kukka. Did you know, for example, that you can color textiles with bacteria that produce pigment? With Kukka, Laura wants to make the world a little more beautiful, both aesthetically and socially. Laura is one of the residents of De Wasserij.
Andriana Landegent
Andriana Landegent is a seasoned expert in the field of eco, bio and, above all, naturally dyed textiles. She is the founder and co-owner of Ecological Republic, one of the first companies that supplied 100% organic and naturally dyed materials to the fashion and clothing industry. Andriana previously worked as a consultant in the fashion industry and has a deep knowledge about local and international production. Since 2004, she has been working closely with entrepreneurs in India, and started Seven Senses, a Dutch-Indian textile label that specializes in Khadi, traditional hand-spun and handwoven cotton. At the moment she is working on a new concept to make natural dyed fabrics more accessible for smaller sized companies.
