Martijn combines aesthetics and craftmanship in the right balance. Creating detailed images in contrast or perfect harmony is what drives his work as a bespoke tailor and costume designer.
During his study at the Willem de Kooning Academy Audiovisuel Design, Martijn started to focus on the possibilities of the visual power of storytelling in costume design.
In 2008 Martijn started working for the Costume Department of National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam. Where he refined his bespoke tailoring skills at the highest level.
Since 2011 Martijn has been working as a tailor and designer in film and theater, under his own label Martinus Johannes. Including Silbersee, Holland Opera, M31 Foundation, Toneelgroep Oostpool, Blue Dolphin Media and Hit Me Productions.
