Melissa de Vos
Melissa de Vos is a social textile- and material designer, with a heart for finding sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. In her work, she finds beauty in the unexpected and shows the possibilities of new materials.
For her graduation project, she turned structural fishing waste into a new, high-end fashion product – shoes. Using salmon skins and scales that would normally end up in the bin, she created fishleather. The entire tanning and dye-process is harmless to the environment. Melissa introduced the new materials as an alternative to the usual animal- and environmentally unfriendly leather.
